Funded by a $250,000 grant from the Kentucky Opioid Response Effort (KORE), the Fletcher Group delivers the complementary SUD screening and treatment that medical clinics, community health centers, and private practices may not be equipped to provide on their own. The Fletcher Group thus facilitates a complete “Continuum Of Care” by supplying an essential service adapted with sensitivity to the needs of each practice.
The Need Is Real
Over 20 million Americans—one in ten— currently have at least one addiction, yet only ten percent receive treatment. That’s in part because few medical clinics, community health centers, and private practices offer the screening, diagnosis and medication-assisted treatments their patients need. Nor are they able to refer patients to high-quality recovery facilities where disorders can be professionally addressed.
The Right Place, The Right Time
Screenings for common, treatable conditions—even cancers associated with significant morbidity and mortality— routinely take place in general medical settings. Patients, too, prefer that screenings take place in an integrated care setting where therapeutic relationships are already established.
The USPSTF Agrees
Given the prevalence of SUDs in patients and the effectiveness of medications to treat them, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends that primary care providers screen all patients for SUDs.
A Team Effort
As a Kentucky Opioid Response Effort (KORE) partner, the Fletcher Group works closely with a wide range of Kentucky agencies including the Departments for Behavioral Health, Developmental and Intellectual Disabilities, Medicaid Services, Public Health, Community-Based Services, the Office of Health Policy, and the Office of the Inspector General. Other work group participants include the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet, the Office of Drug Control Policy, the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet, and the Governor’s Office.
